Laurie Cannac started her research from a keen questioning about feminine identity and first she conducted a survey on the woman’s image through myths and fairy tales. Her main sources are the books of Marie–Louise Von Franz, a disciple of Jung, La Femme Solaire, by Laure Salomon, La Femme Celtique and Mélusine, by Jean Markale, Caliban and the Witch by Silvia Federici, The Golden Ass of Julius Apuleius, Ovid’s Metamorphoses, the Grimm’s Tales.
The real issue, as it appeared to her, was to show the identity crisis of the woman, who wavers between a normative femininity forced on her by the prevailing culture, and a more complete intuition of her own personal femininity.
After several attempts around the character of Melusine, she finally decided to embody this conflict within a tale of the brothers Grimm, inspired by the fight of Venus and Psyche: Snow White.
As she was usually doing, she made use of the tale the same way as Jung, interpreting it as a dream of the mankind and dealing with each character as a facet of the psyche of the main character.
